Gordon Food Service (previously Perkins Paper) is a third generation company and New England’s largest independent wholesale distributor of food service and sanitary maintenance supplies. In need of a new corporate headquarters that would incorporate cold storage, dry good storage and office facilities into one location, the company chose Dacon to design and build the new, 348,390 SF facility. With 54,370 SF of two-story office space, 214,200 SF of dry good and dock space, 22,600 SF of cooler dock, a 45,200 SF -10° Fahrenheit freezer, and 12,020 SF of operations, office and mechanical mezzanine, the completed project supports the efficiency and effectiveness of Gordon Food’s day-to-day operations. Dacon also incorporated a six-pump fuel station and 45 tailboard loading docks, and included office and warehouse expansion options in the design.
To accommodate the town’s concerns about noise and appearance, Dacon took special measures during the design and construction phases of the project, including incorporating berms, solid wood fencing, and sound absorbent exterior wall panels into the design. Since completing the original project, Gordon Food called on Dacon to design, engineer and construct a 178,740 SF expansion that included additional dry goods storage, a large freezer space, a refrigerated dock area and mezzanine, all of which are complimentary to the original building’s facade.
